We teach practical water skills for safety, sport, and performance

Our training progresses from basic comfort in the water, to advanced underwater movement, breath control, and task performance.

What Sets Us Apart

Non- Swimmer and Beginner Friendly

Everything we do is built with inexperienced swimmers in mind.

Our program introduces deep water gradually, allowing members to progress from their current comfort level at their own pace.

As skills and confidence grow, participants challenge themselves further in the water — going deeper, holding their breath longer, and learning to remain calm and capable in deep water.

Practical Skills

We teach skills such as treading, floating, breath control, and staying calm while submerged, in fun, safe, and interesting ways.

This is not lap swimming, and it is not traditional swim lessons.

Our focus is simple: practical skills for real-world water situations.

Have a pool at home? We’ll come to you.

CalmWater instructors can teach individuals, families, or small groups in the comfort of your own pool.

Learn practical water skills and have fun, while making the most of the pool you already have.

How our program works

The CalmWater Method

We use games, objects, and activities to teach water competency, beginning with comfort, and progressing to water fluency.

Like martial arts, our practice teaches essential life skills. Although participants come to us to develop water confidence, get in shape, or train for competition, they become stronger — physically and mentally — and find confidence, community, and purpose.

Step 1: Comfort

We begin by helping students feel comfortable in the water. This step includes breath control, putting face in the water, floating, and basic movements.

Step 2: Control

As comfort grows, students learn to control their body in the water and remain calm in deep water, or when they cannot touch the bottom. This step includes treading water, basic swim strokes, underwater orientation, and staying calm while submerged.

Step 3: Competence

As students master control in the water, they become more and more competent in the water. This step includes sustained treading, controlled breath holds, introduction to C02 tolerance, and underwater and surface skills.

Water fluency is the combination of comfort and competence in the water. Water fluent students can move efficiently on the surface and underwater. They are able to perform tasks while submerged and significantly extend their breath-hold capacity. At this stage, many athletes begin training for higher performance goals such as free diving, underwater sports, or military swim qualifications.
